The AIS Special Interest Group on Education, SIGED, is dedicated to promoting excellence in information management/systems/technology education, research and practice. Our objective is to provide a forum in which interdisciplinary researchers and educators in information systems can exchange ideas, techniques, and applications. Through various activities including organizing an annual pre-ICIS conference and organizing education tracks at major AIS affiliated conferences including AMCIS, PACIS, ECIS and ACIS, we realize our objectives.
Each year we organize a pre-ICIS conference with a lineup or competitively selected peer-reviewed papers, tutorials, and panel discussions. Formerly known as the International Academy for Information Management, our special interest group on IS education has been organizing this pre-ICIS annual conference for the past 30 years. At the conference, a best paper award is announced. All accepted papers go through a double-blind peer review process and a conference proceedings is produced every year. The best papers in the conference are fast-tracked for possible publication in the Journal of Information Systems Education (JISE). In 2011, the best paper award winner in our SIGED conference went on to win the award for best paper in education across all AIS conferences.
In the last few years, we have seen education tracks expand in almost all major AIS conferences. SIGED is now regularly involved in organizing the education tracks for all the major AIS conferences – AMCIS, ECIS, PACIS and ACIS. Our members are track chairs at AMCIS, ACIS, PACIS and ICIS conferences and we are continuing this tradition into the years to come. We would urge all IS educators to become members of this association and participate actively in its activities. We also organize various teaching and learning workshops at AIS conferences to help sharpen teaching and curriculum development skills to our young professors. We are always looking for members to participate or propose your own SIGED-sponsored workshops.
Currently we have close to 200 members. Many of them regularly participate in the conferences, workshops and other events organized by SIGED. In addition, members receive regular invitations to participate and organize education tracks in the affiliated conferences. We invite you to join in our activities and contribute.
